Family Fun Day
We had a super day at Gleaston on Saturday 27th June – the sun shone and people came to enjoy themselves. Jester for Jesus was there with his magic shows; Iron Shepherds were there with their “Living History” display, and we were supported by The Blind Society, RNLI, Rampside Flying Club, The Coastguard, McDougall’s Catering, Bouncy Castles Barrow and the local ice cream man, who was in great demand. In addition we were able to enjoy a BBQ, sit and drink tea and coffee, although cold drinks were very popular too, as was our face painting genius, Becky. We even had our Rush Queen, Grace Callaghan, there on the day to open the event. Among the games were things like Splat the Rat, Archery, Coconut Shy, and many others. Our thanks go to everyone who worked very hard on the day and chiefly to the Air Cadets from Barrow and Ulverston, for without them to help us put up and take down varieties of tents, and help us man the stalls, this event wouldn’t happen. New volunteers are always welcome. The highlight of the day was the Tug O’ War, and this has now become a keen contest between families and The Air Cadets. We look forward to developing this further next year.
Our thanks also go to those who helped sponsor this event: Tesco Ltd, Barrow; W.I. Urswick, W.I. Rampside; Cumberland Building Society; The URC Dalton coffee morning; and lots of other individual donations. This day is given by the Churches of Aldingham, Dendron, Rampside and Urswick, as a gift to the communities in which we live, as is part of our Mission Outreach.
